Bale was booed by his own fans upon his return. He laughed off their reaction on the pitch
Gareth Bale is a big thorn in the side of Real Madrid fans. He hasn’t played much this season due to injuries, yet he is receiving an astronomical salary from the club. Moreover, his motivation at club level is definitely not ideal. And so, upon his return, Bale received boos instead of cheers. However, the Welsh footballer is not worried about the fans’ reaction.
Gareth Bale is a big thorn in the side of Real Madrid fans. He hasn’t played much this season due to injuries, yet he is receiving an astronomical salary from the club. While just four years ago Gareth Bale was considered a star at Real Madrid, that is certainly not the case now. There has been a huge downturn in his career, which has been linked to frequent injuries and loss of motivation.
However, Bale continues to receive an astronomical salary from the club, which is not well received by Real fans. Just to give you an idea, in the current season, Bale has played in only five games in which he has played 281 minutes.
In the current season, it was only on Saturday that the Welsh footballer made his first appearance at his home stadium. And it didn’t go well for him. He came on for the last 17 minutes and instead of applause, he received deafening boos from the Real fans.
During the substitution, there was a quite unprecedented situation, when Madrid supporters escorted Benzema off the pitch with applause and chants of celebration, but after Bale’s arrival on the pitch, the atmosphere immediately changed and people started whistling. Bale, however, laughed it off and laughed at the fans’ reaction.
Gareth Bale certainly did not endear himself to the fans with this gesture. The only possible outcome seems to be the Welsh footballer’s departure from the Spanish club.
Yet Bale certainly has the chops to keep putting in world-class performances, as he did just over four years ago. He is also proving that in his games for the national team. Thanks to him in particular, Wales can still qualify for the World Cup, having secured their country’s qualification to the final with two goals in the barrage against Austria.
So it will be interesting to see how the Gareth Bale story plays out. Most likely he will not continue at Real. His contract here expires this summer, so the door may open for him to return to Tottenham, for example.
