The U19 Champions League semi-final matches, along with the final match, are scheduled for the end of April in Nyon, France. The trio of Atlético Madrid, Salzburg and Juventus will be joined by one of the three teams still remaining in the competition.
One of the eight-final matches, scheduled for 9 March, has still not been played and UEFA is waiting for a resolution.
The missing match, apart from Sporting Lisbon, is Dynamo Kiev’s junior side. Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the latter cannot play the eight-final match, and 16 of the 30 Ukrainian players of the Kiev team are over 18 years of age and have been called up to defend their country.
However, as with the senior national team, which is due to play a barrage of games against Scotland in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, UEFA is trying to exhaust all time resources to allow Kiev’s players to fight for a debut in the UEFA Youth League quarter-finals.
It has not yet announced how it will proceed if the match is not played. In that case, the quarter-final Lisbon derby would be on the cards, as Benfica got past Denmark’s Midtjylland in the eighth round, with Juventus awaiting the winner.
The semi-finals are scheduled for 22 April and the final three days later, all matches will be hosted at the Colovray Stadium in Nyon and broadcast by Uefa.tv.
The following weeks will show whether Dynamo Kiev, who knocked out the academies of Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the group stage, will have a chance to at least challenge for the title.
