McGregor has caused a stir in the martial arts world. How are the leading figures of the UFC reacting to his challenge of Usman?
Conor McGregor is just recovering from a nasty injury from his July fight with Dustin Poirier that sidelined him for a very long time. Although the star Irishman cannot wrestle, he has traditionally been very active in public during his recovery thanks to his bold statements.
Conor McGregor is just recovering from a nasty injury from his July fight with Dustin Poirier that sidelined him for a very long time. Although the star Irishman cannot wrestle, he has traditionally been very active in public during his recovery thanks to his bold statements. He sent one such into the world recently when he challenged Kamara Usman. What did the UFC’s leading figures have to say?
As we informed you, the star Conor McGregor has once again stirred up the waters of MMA. He certainly wouldn’t surprise anyone with his statement about going straight for a title shot after his not so good recent fights.
The UFC’s biggest star, whose fights have historically occupied the highest ranks in pay-per-view sales, is getting special treatment.
However, this time around, the former featherweight and lightweight titleholder gave the world a confident statement that his comeback would be at welterweight and his opponent would be the UFC’s number one contender across all weight classes, Kamaru Usman.
Of course, this didn’t leave his potential opponent cold and the news spread across all the world’s media, as is usually the case with McGregor.
What UFC President Dana White had to say about the possible duel
The president of the UFC organization, Dana White, could be in favor of such a fight and he certainly hasn’t closed the imaginary door on the duel. “I haven’t heard about it yet, but it could be an interesting fight,” White did not rule out a possible duel, according to TheMacLife. “Conor is coming to Las Vegas, so we’ll definitely talk about it, ” he said.
While obviously a title fight doesn’t make sense from a ratings standpoint, even given his recent results, we’ve seen more than once that the organization is in favor of fights that break PPV sales records.
Every Conor fight is a ‘moneyfight’, ” White said with a smile when asked by a reporter if such a fight is all about the money.
Champion Kamaru Usman also responded to McGregor’s challenge
Kamaru “The Nigerian Nightmare” Usman, who gets his nicknames and is a nightmare for his opponents, is already pulling a streak of 15 wins in a row in the UFC. As crazy as McGregor’s idea may seem, it has once again caused quite a stir in the martial arts world.
Even Usman himself responded to the interview. “I guess you want to see murder right in the octagon,” wrote a confident Usman in a post on Twitter.
UFC rising star Khamzat Chimaev offered to help McGregor
A potential clash between the two fighters would likely have a clear-cut outcome. Kamaru Usman is known for his excellent wrestling and Conor would surely have a flying day.
The Irish fighter has been offered help with ground fighting by the rising UFC star Khamzat Chimaev, with whom the Czech fighter Matej Peňáz trains in Stockholm, Sweden.
“If you want to come back, we will help you, ” Chimaev wrote on his Twitter account. “We are waiting for you in our camp,” added the undefeated Swedish wolf, who has landed just four punches in four UFC fights.
A potential duel would certainly generate a lot of interest in the martial arts world and every MMA fan would want to see it. However, both fighters are currently injured and White recently confirmed that Kamaru Usman will face Leon Edwards, who is riding a streak of nine straight wins and his latest executioner was the Nigerian Nightmare.
