The Czech national football team failed to make it through the semi-final barrage match for the World Cup and fell to Sweden 0:1. The performance of the Czech team was not bad, but Kuchta and co. did not have many opportunities. What did coach Jaroslav Šilhavy say after the match?
The Czechs went into the match with Sweden as a small underdog, the chances were almost even and that’s exactly what happened. Jaroslav Šilhavy’s team was no worse and the score was 0:2 in regulation time.
It went to overtime, in which the Swedes improved and scored the winning goal after a good action. In the end, the Swedes were able to celebrate their progress and will play Poland for the World Cup.
“I’m disappointed, the guys in the booth have their heads down. Although the Swedes have a great team, like us they knew that they had to go all the way to the penalty shootout and fight it out for promotion.
Despite all the problems we had with the nomination, I have to praise the boys for their performance,” said coach Šilhavy at the press conference.
The lineup was quite surprising, playing with three stoppers and the defense played well. Why did the coaching staff decide that?
“We thought about it for a long time because it has to be played and practiced. We had one training session. It was a big risk, but we agreed with the guys and they accepted it.
We explained to them why, given that the opponent has great strikers and was always pushing it into midfield and the absence of the edge defenders. That’s why we made this decision,” he added.
On March 29, the Czech team will challenge Wales, who advanced to the final via Austria, but will have to wait until the summer to find out their opponents.
