Lionel Messi has spoken out about his future after Argentina’s qualifying match against Venezuela. But don’t expect a change until the World Cup in Qatar in November. But after that, he says, a lot of things are likely to change.
The star of the Argentine national team used to be quite frustrated that he never won a World Cup or South American championship with his country. That all changed last year when Argentina beat defending champions Brazil 1-0 in the Copa América final.
Messi will be 35 years old this June and will probably have one last chance to lift the World Cup trophy in Qatar.
Asked if he will continue with the national team after the World Cup , he said::”I don’t know what I will do after the World Cup. I’m thinking about what’s coming, after Qatar I’ll have to rethink a lot of things.”
In his last games for PSG, there were boos from the stands. Fans are not happy that the team has dropped out of the Champions League. In Argentina, on the other hand, he received a standing ovation after his third goal against Venezuela.
“It’s been a while since I’ve been happy here, since I won the Copa. I’m grateful for all that, they make me feel it every time I come to Argentina,” Messi said.
Now all the preparation is focused on the World Cup in November. Argentina has already secured direct qualification ahead of the remaining two qualifying matches. The next one will be against Ecuador on March 30.
“Let’s hope it goes the best way possible. But after the World Cup, I’m sure a lot of things will change,” Messi added, leaving a question mark over his future in the Argentina jersey.
