Harry Kane continues his rampage in Albion! He surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton in goals against Switzerland

Tottenham star Harry Kane has equalled Bobby Charlton’s tally of goals for the England national team in England’s friendly against Switzerland on Saturday.

England’s national team took on the Swiss national team at Wembley on Saturday and after an even contest, the home team was delighted with the win.

The verdict of the video referees proved to be the decisive moment as they awarded a penalty after the hand of Swiss player Steven Zuber in the penalty area. Tottenham’s 28-year-old star Harry Kane stood up to it and made no mistake.

Kane entered the match with 48 goals for the England national team. Exactly one shot behind Albion legend and Manchester United idol Sir Bobby Charlton. The match was not going well for the home team.

After just twenty-two minutes, Swiss striker Breel Embolo opened the scoring. However, Luke Shaw managed to equalise in the first half when he scored from the edge of the box after a pass from young Callagher. Then in the 78th minute, Harry Kane sealed the win for the home side, capitalising on a penalty kick ordered by Swedish referee Ekberg.

He has now equalled the 49 goals scored by the legendary Bobby Charlton, who held second place in goals scored for the England national team. That left only Wayne Rooney ahead of them, who has a four-goal lead over his pursuer.

Kane’s goals have proved pivotal in England’s inspirational performances at recent major tournaments. The striker scored six goals at the 2018 World Cup and won the Golden Boot of the tournament as England reached the semi-finals.

But while he added four more goals at last year’s Euro 2020, he came up empty in the final match against Italy and the title of European champion was won by the team from the Apennine Peninsula.

Kane is aware that England will need his goals in Qatar. “The final from the summer still hurts, it still leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, so it will definitely give you more hunger and fire in your belly to go one step further in a big tournament,” the cannonballer explained, according to The Goal, in the build-up to Saturday’s fixture.

“I feel we are improving every year and this year is no different,” he believes in the strength of his team. “We are making really big steps to become one of the best teams in the history of the England national team,” he added.
