The battle of the football giants could be called a clash between Spain’s Real Madrid and France’s PSG. In the first match, the players from the Parc des Princes had the upper hand, but they were only able to translate it into one goal scored on their home pitch.
This was scored by Frenchman Kylian Mbappé in the setup, but it is not certain whether he will be able to play in the rematch due to health problems. However, he did fly to the Spanish capital with his team.
However, the Real Madrid squad also reported health problems for players Toni Kroos and Federico Valverde. Casemiro and Ferland Mendy are not allowed to start due to a three yellow card penalty.
“It’s a shame that Casemiro won’t be starting because we all know exactly what he brings to our system. But we have other players capable of giving good performances, like Valverde and Camavinga. I hope Kroos will come in. I’ll have to do my job as always and add a little extra to cover the work that Casemiro normally does. We‘ll all have to give a bit more of ourselves, especially defensively.”
On the health of German midfielder Toni Kroos, Carlo Ancelotti told a press conference, ” If a player is not 100 per cent fit, he cannot play in games like this. If I believe Kroos is 100 per cent fit, he plays, but if it’s 95 per cent, he doesn’t play.”
On the possible absence of opposing star Mbappé, the White Ballet coach noted that the game’s tactics are not only built on defending the French striker, but also Paris’ other great players. He further added that his team will prepare for PSG as if Mbappé will start.
Kylian Mbappé’s name is mostly associated with Real Madrid in connection with the next transfer window when his contract expires in Paris. He has not yet signed a new one at the Parc des Princes.
However, it is Mbappé’s speed and cool finishing that could play a key role in unravelling the relegation conundrum between Real and PSG, or between his eventual future and current employers.
Both Ancelotti and Modric believe that their home environment, among other things, will help them to progress. They also both praised the last match at the Santiago Bernabéu against Real Sociedad, which the White Ballet won 4-1, when the strength of the team was felt and also the strong support of the Real fans.
However, the Champions League is still a level above that, let’s see how the White Ballet can cope with a pumped up Paris Saint-Germain team in a situation where they have to make up a one-goal deficit.
