Countries like the Czech Republic are dealing with an important issue in European football, which is the national coefficient. This determines the number of participants in the cup competitions and also which and in which rounds they will be seeded. How is the situation developing now for Czech football?

The European competitions continue, with Slavia Prague, who are now the only Czech hope of improving their coefficient, coming up on Thursday in the European Conference League.

At 18:45 they will challenge the Austrian team LASK Linz in Eden and the goal is clear, to win and create a good result for the rematch. In this case, they would get 0.4 points for the win and could continue to get them. How is the coefficient situation now?

The Czech Republic has to look at a lot of countries. Greece has the same number of points and is the biggest competitor in the quest for 15th place. PAOK is in the pool and a win there will put 0.5 points in the coefficient, as Greece had one less team in Europe at the start of this season, so they only share four points.

PAOK’s opponent will be Belgium’s Gent, and the Greek side play their opening game at home. 0.225 points is the Czech Republic’s lead over Denmark, which has one team in the game, FC Copenhagen, which will play PSV, the first match is played in the Netherlands.

They share five points, just like us. Turkey is 0.300 points behind, Galatasaray is in the game and they will challenge Barcelona, so we will hope for the favourite to advance and if possible two wins for the Spanish giant. Turkey is also separated by five points.

The last opponent is now Norway, which is 1,200 points away. Divided by four, the only other participant is the excellent Bodo/Glimt, who will challenge AZ Alkmaar. But it would have to work hard to threaten us.

There is also the possibility that we will move up by knocking out the Russian teams. But it must be added that the coefficient now extends to the 2023/24 season and it is possible that by then the situation will have calmed down and the Russian units will be able to play Europe.
