Mohamed Salah had the first big chance in the second minute, but Lukasz Fabianski knocked his attempt away with his knee. In the eleventh minute, Luis Diaz’s shot was firstly cleared by Craig Dawson, but the subsequent shot was off target.
At the other end, Michail Antonio sent in a stinging shot, but Alisson had to head it out for a corner. The Jamaican strongman fired again in the 22nd minute, Alisson again headed for a corner. A good pass by the Hammers led to nothing.
Six minutes later, Liverpool were in front. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s shot found Sadio Mané and he delivered the ball into the net. The home side didn’t stop pressing, and in the 38th minute West Ham survived a dangerous barrage, Aaron Cresswell kicking the ball off the line.
Pablo Fornals’ lob spiced up an entertaining first half, but it didn’t reach the net.
After the change of sides, Liverpool continued to dominate the home side, but the chances were significantly fewer. It was not until the 67th minute that Mohamed Salah scored twice, but on both occasions he only headed into the gloves of Lukasz Fabianski.
A minute later, Fornals had the equaliser, but from a small area he punishingly shot over. In the 80th minute, West Ham went two-on-two, but Antonio missed the ideal moment to pass and only won another corner.
In the end, West Ham failed to create the necessary pressure and lost 0:1 to Liverpool. The Hammers remain fifth.
