Slavia won the opening match of the Conference Europa League play-offs 3:2 against Fenerbahce Istanbul. The goals were scored by Ibrahim Traoré, Oscar Dorley and Ondřej Lingr.
Tomáš Holeš had his first shot in the 14th minute, but from a direct kick he hit only one of the defending players. Four minutes later Slavia went three-on-two, but Yira Sor opted for an inaccurate shot instead of a pass to a free Peter Olayinka.
Bright Osayi-Samuel was the first to threaten for the home side, but he missed the target from 20 yards. The Seychellois scored a well-deserved goal in the last minute of the first half. Srdjan Plavsic’s centre hit the bar, and Ibrahim Traoré made no mistake.
Slavia managed the first half well. The Nigerians Olayinka and Sorem tormented the home defence and made the Red-Whites’ breaks very dangerous. Fenerbahce paid for inaccuracies in the final stages.
After the change of sides, Traoré shot from the edge of the box, but this time his attempt was blocked. On the other side, Enner Valencia deftly broke free and Slavia were saved by the near post.
In the 58th minute the game was level, a cross from the left was cleared by Dimitris Pelkas. The reaction of the Susians came immediately. After a lucky bounce, the ball went to Oscar Dorley, who hit the half-empty goal from a volley.
And a minute later it was two goals up. Ondřej Lingr took advantage of a goalkeeper’s raid with a precise shot to the back post. But the home team didn’t give up. Ferdi Kadioglu’s shot was crossed by Olayinka and Mandous had no chance to react.
At the very end, Slavia held on and took a valuable 3:2 win from Istanbul. The rematch is scheduled for next Thursday.
