Tuesday offered two Champions League semi-final matches. Chelsea and Lille easily dominated the English club, who won 2:0 after goals from Havertz and Pulisic. Villarreal were already down in the first minute at home, but eventually drew with Juventus.
The other four teams played their first eight-final matches in the millionaire competition called the Champions League. The first match pitted England’s Chelsea against France’s Lille.
The home side dug in from the start and had several interesting chances. Kai Haverz, however, fumbled twice on good chances. But the third time was the charm.
In the eighth minute, he pounced on Hakim Ziyech’s centre from a corner kick and headed the 26-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper Leo Jardim out of trouble.
The latter capitulated for the second time in the 63rd minute when N’Golo Kanté brought the ball out and found a free Christian Pulisic, who finished between his legs.
The French team could no longer react to the state of the match and took a rather unpleasant result into the rematch.
The second match between Villarreal and Juventus started to get interesting right after its start. Before the players of the home team could deploy well, their goalkeeper was already fishing the ball out of the net.
In fact, in the 32nd second, a new signing in the form of Dusan Vlahovic, who shines even brighter than before after his arrival to the Old Lady.
Villarreal were not far from equalising, but in the 13th minute Giovani Lo Celso only hit the bar. The yellow submarine, however, managed to level the match.
Dani Parejo scored in the 66th minute, whose quick pass found Etienne Capoue. The 1-1 draw lasted until the end of the match and the rematch will certainly be interesting.
