Khabib Nurmagomedov briefly revisited his fight with Conor McGregor in a recent interview. Among other things, he revealed that even though the Irishman demanded a rematch after the loss, the UFC never offered him one. Why?
Khabib Nurmagomedov is now retired from wrestling and enjoying a coaching and promotional career as he trains several charges and owns the growing Eagle FC organization.
However, he was recently challenged to a fight by youtuber Jake Paul, who in a way may be stirring up memories of the undefeated Khabib’s fight with Conor McGregor because of his shake.
However, the Dagestani uncompromisingly defeated the star Irishman. As Khabib himself says, he expected more from McGregor.
“I was preparing for a war. Then I come in the cage, fight him and he knocks him out? I was like, why did I come here, why did I train so hard, if you’re going to tap so fast? I just started choking him and he was knocking. I expected more, it pissed me off,” Nurmagomedov expressed to the Full Send Podcast.
McGregor took the defeat hard. He repeatedly asked for a rematch, trying to force it with the help of the media. But to no avail.
Khabib revealed that the UFC could not find a single reason why the rematch should happen. The organization’s management reportedly acknowledged that McGregor lost all the rounds, plus tapped out. The only reason for a rematch could have been the big money made.
The Khabib-McGregor fight is still the highest-grossing tournament in UFC history.
