Xherdan Shaqiri left Liverpool in the summer for France, where he was to become one of the main stars of Olympique Lyon. But he’s already headed elsewhere. His imminent departure has already been confirmed by the club.
Xherdan Shaqiri was a great talent, but he couldn’t get past the legendary duo of Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben at Bayern, and his loan move to Inter Milan didn’t work out either.
He got his chance to shine in a Stoke City jersey. With his performances in this team and in the national team jersey, he asked for a transfer to Liverpool, but there again the wheat did not bloom.
After three years, he got another transfer, he was to become one of the main faces of the famous French team. At Lyon, however, he again failed to meet expectations, although he showed great qualities at times.
In 16 competitive matches he scored 2 goals and 3 assists, playing less than 1000 minutes. He is expected to leave Olympique Lyon in the next few days. He has only spent six months in France.
“The management of Olympique Lyon and coach Peter Bosz inform that they have granted Xherdan Shaqiri’s request to enter into negotiations with an MLS club for a future transfer,” a club statement read.
Olympique also informs that Shaqiri will not take part in training and will not be part of the squad that will feature in Saturday’s match against Monaco.
The Swiss international is headed to the Chicago Fire, with the transfer expected to be announced in the next few days.
