Arsenal will make up for the passive January transfer deadline in the summer. The Gunners want to invest huge sums in reinforcements

The January transfer window was all about departures for Arsenal. The fans of the North London club did not see any new signings. Mikel Arteta will play the second half of the season with a considerably reduced squad. But there will be big transfers at the Emirates Stadium this summer! How much will Arsenal invest in reinforcements?

Six players have left the Gunners’ cabinet in recent weeks – Calum Chambers (Aston Villa), Ainsley Maitland-Niles (AS Roma), Pablo Mari (Udinese), Sead Kolašinac (Marseille), Folarin Balogun (Middlesbrough) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Barcelona). While some of them are only heading out on loan, the important thing is that Arsenal will save at least £500k a week in wages.

The current sixth Premier League team did a real purge of the squad, but no one replaced the departed players. Arteta will complete the remaining league programme with only 20 A-team players. The club’s management is willing to invest up to £180m in reinforcements, given the money saved in the January transfer window. And who is the Spanish strategist targeting?

Arsenal scouts have had Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak, England international Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Wolverhampton midfielder Ruben Neves in their sights for months. A duo of Leicester players – Youri Tielemans and James Maddison – are also on the club’s radar.

Arsenal were tempted by the Swedish striker at the services of San Sebastian back in January but were unwilling to pay the £75m price tag. He would have paid a similar amount in the summer. Calvert-Lewin, who plays for Everton, would only cost £60m, while Portuguese midfielder Neves has a price tag of £15m less.

Arsenal’s coffers would be considerably emptied in the summer transfer window, with the aforementioned trio worth a combined £180m. With the potential arrival of one of the Foxes midfielders, we’re talking up to £250m spent on summer reinforcements.
