Tottenham welcome Southampton to the Premier League on Wednesday. In case of a win and a draw, Tottenham can reach the Top 6, while Southampton is playing for the first half of the table. What to expect from the match?
Tottenham have picked up under Antonio Conte, winning three of their last five league games, and are eighth only thanks to a number of postponements. They are two points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, with two rounds to play.
Southampton have woken up after a poor start to the season and are currently in the quiet middle of the competition. In twelfth place, they have a comfortable ten point lead on the relegation zone.
After the New Year, Harry Kane is finally starting to shoot, the England international has scored five goals and assisted twice so far. Korea’s Heung Min Son has been much more productive, scoring eight times and assisting four times in the Premier League.
Scottish striker Che Adams is on a rampage in the Saints attack, scoring four goals and one assist. Central midfielder James Ward-Prowse has even been on the scoresheet with eight goals (6+2), while Armando Broja, who is visiting the south coast from Chelsea, has also been performing well.
Spurs stand on solid defence, they have conceded only twenty-five goals in the league, only Manchester City, Liverpool, Wolverhampton and Brighton have scored fewer.
Southampton’s defence has also started to work a bit better, with only one goal in three of the last four rounds, twice of which were valuable 1-1 draws (against Spurs and Manchester City).
Given the good form of Spurs under the new coach, I think Tottenham will win and score at least two goals.
