Liverpool made it through the Carabao Cup semi-final return leg, winning 2-0 at Emirates Stadium and progressing to the final. Both goals were scored by Portugal’s Diogo Jota and Thomas Partey did not finish the match.
Alexandre Lacazette had the first chance of the match in the sixth minute, but Caoimhin Kelleher had to head his direct kick onto the crossbar. The visitors also made the first response from a standard situation, Joel Matip even scored after a corner kick in the 13th minute, but from an offside position.
In the 20th minute, Liverpool were already celebrating. Diogo Jota finished a nice team action with a shot to the near post. The blanket fell on Arsenal after the sending off, the visitors started to dominate the ball, the Gunners’ breaks were successfully extinguished by the defenders.
At the end of the first half Lacazette was still asking for a red card, first he shot down Curtis Jones, a minute later he stopped a nascent chance. Liverpool went into the cabins with a 1:0 lead.
At the start of the second half, both teams threw away big chances. First, Lacazette headed over, then three minutes later, in an even better position, young Kaide Gordon failed. In the 59th minute, Ibrahim Konaté’s dangerous header was saved by the bar.
Liverpool looked to secure the final goal, but Takumi Minamine’s shot was cleared off the line by Gabriel Martinelli. In the 78th minute, the game was decided. Jota ran in behind the defence and neatly outmuscled Aaron Ramsdale.
In the 90th minute, Thomas Partey saw his second yellow card and the frustrated Gunners went down to ten. The game ended 0-2 and Liverpool will play Chelsea in the final.
