Watford’s not fighting it! Coach Ranieri has been sacked after three months with the team

Claudio Ranieiri joined the team in October, but his Watford engagement didn’t last too long. After three months on the Hornets’ bench, he was recalled.

Watford management is known for not showing much patience towards their managers. After the players led by Claudio Ranieri failed to score in their last game against relegation rival Norwich, it was clear that the Italian had it bent. Just days after the battle, Ranieri was sacked.

The coach’s results weren’t great, rather poor. Seven losses from the last eight games is not a record that should leave the players, the fans or the Watford management in peace. The sacking of Ranieri is specific in that it is the second one in one year that the management has made. It had previously parted company with Spanish coach Xisco.

“The management of the Hornets has the utmost respect for Claudio Ranieri and we thank him for his service to our club. However, we feel that we need a change on the coaching bench for the rest of the season to help us in our goal of staying in the Premier League,” reads the official statement on the club’s website.

Watford have two weeks to find a new coach – they have another important game against a team from the bottom half of the table, Burnley, on February 5. However, the last time they defended a valuable draw at Arsenal, Watford will not expect anything easy. Especially in a situation where it is plagued by injuries to many players, indiscipline and poor productivity.

Whether the new coach will remain on the bench longer than his predecessors remains a question mark. An argument speaking in his favour is the fact that since 2012, when the Pozzo family took over the club, 14 coaches have been replaced on the bench.
