Burkina Faso have advanced to the knockout stage from second place in Group A. It fought Gabon for 120 minutes in the semi-finals, with even extra time not deciding the winner, with Burkina eventually prevailing 7-6 on penalty kicks.
Tunisia struggled through the group stage, winning only one match and advancing from third place with three points. In the eighth round, they unexpectedly knocked out one of the tournament’s biggest favourites, beating Nigeria 1: 0.
Bertrand Traoré of Aston Villa is the mainstay of the home team, scoring one goal and assisting once so far in the tournament. Cyrille Bayala, who is currently playing in the French league, boasts the same record.
Wahbi Khazri has been shining for Tunisia for a long time, the biggest star in the team has scored twice at the AFCON. Winger Youssef Msakni decided the promotion to the top eight teams and impressed with a likeable performance on the left wing.
Burkina Faso is the master of draws, with four of the last seven matches through all competitions ending in a draw after regulation time.
Tunisia is again looking to be on the offensive. A couple of years ago, one of Africa’s top selections didn’t score a single goal in four of its last seven games.
Given the experienced squad and the increased confidence after the win over Nigeria, I think Tunisia will advance.
