Since his arrival in England, Tomáš Souček has only grown. He helped pull West Ham out of relegation contention and into the Champions League, so logically his price tag is flying up. According to Transfermarkt, he is the eighth most expensive defensive midfielder in the world.
The most valuable defensive midfielder is Joshua Kimmich, according to the renowned Transfermarkt website. The 26-year-old Bayern Munich stalwart is rightly number one, his value is €85 million.
West Ham’s defensive midfielder is also in second place, but it’s not yet Soucek. It is his partner Declan Rice, whose value is 75 million euros. This is due to his young age (22), his nationality and the great interest of the big clubs. If he were to leave, the Hammers are even asking over 100 million euros for his transfer.
In third place is Manchester City’s Rodri. The 25-year-old Spaniard is worth 70 million euros. Then comes a trio of players with the same value. Casemiro from Real Madrid, Fabinho from Liverpool and Ndidi from Leicester would cost 60 million euros. The first two are certainly more experienced and better quality, but there is an age difference (29,28 – 25) that affects the value a lot.
In seventh place is Chelsea’s Ngolo Kante, who is arguably top in terms of quality, but advanced age (30) also plays a big part in the value. The Frenchman has a price tag of €50 million, according to the Transfermarkt website.
And then there is Tomas Soucek. The Czech national team captain is worth €45 million according to Transfermarkt, so at 26 he could still be looking at a transfer to an even bigger club. However, he is perfectly happy at West Ham and it is not out of the question that he will not move anywhere.
The same value in ninth place goes to 30-year-old Jorginho, who recently came third in the Ballon d’Or poll. The top ten is rounded off by Monaco’s 21-year-old Aurélien Tchouaméni (€40m), who is well remembered by all Spartans from their summer duel.
