Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy spent Christmas in one of the worst prisons in England. He was placed in Manchester’s Strangeways prison because of fears for his safety, yet he sits there with murderers and dangerous criminals.
Benjamin Mendy has been accused of several sexual rapes and assaults. He is now serving his sentence.
Fearing for his safety, he was moved to one of the toughest prisons in England, where he has been sitting since Christmas Day.
Mendy was originally serving his sentence in Liverpool in a category B prison. But he was not very popular with the other prisoners. The Frenchman was often on the verge of being assaulted, so he was moved to a higher-security prison just before Christmas.
So now the former 2018 world champion is in Manchester’s Strangeways prison, which is considered one of the toughest in England. Some murderers also serve their sentences there.
The transfer may be only a partial win as he may meet Manchester United fans in prison. He may have a hell of a time because of that, because he belongs to Manchester City’s rivals.
In early October, the court rejected Mendy’s bail application, so he is serving his sentence. He is accused of a total of seven counts of sexual abuse and assault, which were alleged to have taken place between 2019 and 2020.
