The two London-based sides clashed in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. Chelsea welcomed Spurs to their home ground and won the first leg 2-0.
The rematch is scheduled for next week, with Tottenham as the home team this time. If his players still want to nurture the chances of the final, they have to close the two-goal deficit. However, there are not many people who believe that the Stamford Bridge team will not advance to the final.
One of those who don’t believe Tottenham can turn the result around is Ashley Cole, who has played for Chelsea in the past. In an interview with Sky Sports, he came down hard on Antonio Conte’s team, comparing them to the leading English sides.
”Personally, I think Tottenham are way behind Chelsea. I feel that in terms of quality, they simply cannot compare with Chelsea. And I’m not talking about Liverpool, Manchester City or Arsenal, they’re nowhere near that level, ” Cole said.
According to him, the three best teams at the moment are Liverpool, Manchester City and, perhaps surprisingly, Arsenal. According to the former great midfielder, while Chelsea are a bit behind these teams, Tottenham are not even close to them. He did not mention Manchester United at all.
The London native started his career in an Arsenal jersey, but moved to rivals Chelsea in 2006. Among others, he has tried his hand at AS Roma, LA Galaxy and Derby County in his career. He has appeared in 107 matches for the England national team.
Apart from one Champions League title, the now forty-one-year-old Englishman, who is now dedicated to the youngsters at Stamford Bridge, has also celebrated three Premier League titles.
