The AFCON, the Africa Cup of Nations, kicked off on Sunday with a duel between Cameroon and Burkina Faso and the first moment of discussion did not take long. It was taken care of by Steeve Yago after just thirty seconds of play.
Cameroon opened the championship as the home team, players and fans alike were looking forward to the tournament that had been postponed for 3 years. However, for Cameroon right tackle Collins Fai, the tournament could have been over after just 30 seconds.
One of the worst possible tackles was made by Steeve Yago. It looked like the Burkina Faso stopper had almost gone mad and wanted to end Faie’s career.
The Cameroonian defender worked the ball on the run, but that’s when Yago came in and jumped on Faie’s knee in a slip. The referee, completely incomprehensibly, only drew a yellow card, this was clearly a red card tackle.
Fortunately, he didn’t hit Faie properly, so the Cameroonian back finished the game. The host country’s jersey also featured former Slavic player Michael Ngadeu, who helped to win 2-1 when Aboubakar scored from two penalties. Sangare scored for Burkina Faso.
