Manchester United failed to win their first game of the weekend, drawing 1-1 at Newcastle. Paradoxically, he can be glad for the point, the home team were clearly better.
In the seventh minute, the home side unexpectedly took the lead from the first chance of the match. Allan Saint-Maximin took advantage of a defensive error and sent the ball to the back post.
Four minutes later, Joelinton fired in, but David de Gea did not have to intervene this time.
Newcastle then switched on towards the back and hardly let Manchester get anything going, with Jonjo Shelvey firing in from distance in the 23rd minute and it didn’t take much to put de Gea through.
The away favourite was playing poorly, the midfield was not working and Manchester had minimal chances. They were saved from a second goal by Callum Wilson’s offside. It was 1:0 going into the box.
Saint-Maximin burned a chance early in the second half, but it was still a goal down. In the 54th minute, Edinson Cavani could have taken advantage of a missed scoring chance, but did not head between the three posts.
In the 70th minute, the Uruguayan sniper celebrated. Diogo Dallot’s centre was first sent into the home defender, but he made no mistake from the rebound.
In the very end, the Magpies surprisingly went for the win. First Jacob Murphy hit the bar, Miguel Almiron’s shot was cleared by de Gea. The points were shared after a 1-1 draw.
