Valencia vs. Espanyol: Preview and betting tips

Valencia welcomes Espanyol Barcelona on New Year’s Eve. They would like to confirm their good form and jump into the Top 4, but they face an unpredictable opponent. What to expect from the match?

Valencia have been on a very good run of form in December. They won the last three rounds and jumped to eighth place in the table. The standings are so even that they are only two points behind fourth place.

Espanyol are a bit worse off, but they are definitely not fighting for salvation. With twenty-three points they are in eleventh place, eight points clear of the relegation zone. In theory, they can think about the European Cup instead of relegation.

The mainstay of the home team is Carlos Soler, the Spanish midfielder has scored seven goals and assisted two in the league. The speedy Portuguese winger Goncalo Guedes boasts six goals and four assists.

In the Espanyol camp, Raúl de Tomás is firing it up, with the burly striker scoring eight times and assisting twice. Otherwise, however, Valencia have struggled up front, with their second top scorer scoring just two goals.

Valencia has worked on the offensive side of the ball, scoring at least two goals in each of the last five games, or more accurately, fourteen goals in this period.

This does not play into the hands of the visitors. Espanyol, on the other hand, have conceded goals in the last five games, ten times in total. The defence has a lot to look forward to on Friday.
