Barcelona will regain greatness with its new president Joan Laporta. Dani Alves, who gave an interview to Alkass Sports Channel, is convinced of this. He talked about his return to Barcelona and also about several figures related to the Catalan club.
Hardly a couple of weeks ago, anyone thought that Dani Alves would return to the Catalan capital. For all the fans, it was definitely unexpected but at the same time joyful news. The 38-year-old player had a feeling that he would return to Barcelona at some point, and although people were surprised, he did. He believes that everyone in the team has to work on rebuilding a great Barcelona and for that they need stability.
In addition, he admitted that if Josep Maria Bartomeu was still the president of the club, there is no way he would return. “I would not accept an offer from him. I left when he was president, it wouldn’t make sense to work with him again,” he confided in an interview.
According to some reports, Alves was rejected by Bartomeu some time ago. The previous president was contacted by the Brazilian himself in May 2019. Bartomeu said it was no problem, but that he needed to talk first with Eric Abidal, who was then in charge of the sports department.
After all, Dani always wanted to return and play at the 2022 World Cup as a Barcelona player. Besides, he encourages everyone to let go of their pride because they need each other.
Dani believes in the success of the new president
On the other hand, Dani mentioned the current president, whom he knows very well from his first stint in Catalonia. “Laporta will rebuild the club and that will bring back stability. We are happy that he is with us,” he spoke via WhatsApp.
He was absolutely clear about whether he was even considering going back. The Brazilian is of the opinion that it makes no sense to return to Barcelona on good terms because then some players become unnecessary. Dani has come back to the club to help it return to the great state it was in before.
Since his departure, there has been a constant search for his replacement on the right side of defence. This has now been commented on by Alves himself. “I think it’s difficult for some to do what others did before. We have to work to the maximum. Barcelona is a different club, you have to be a player who understands the philosophy of the club. Many players don’t understand that,” he revealed.
At the same time, he did not forget about his club’s biggest rival, which is Real Madrid. “Florentino Pérez defends the interests of Real Madrid. Successful management cannot be compared to bad management. A lot depends on the presidents,” he said in his narrative.
He also admitted that Messi’s departure was difficult. The club had problems and it was difficult to keep him or stop him. Dani was always against his departure because he is a living legend of Barcelona. Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out the way all the Barcelona people wanted. Furthermore, the Brazilian defender has expressed his desire to build on his successful time with the Argentine star.
Will the successful Alves – Xavi collaboration be renewed?
Xavi, his former teammate and current coach, is also behind the return to Barcelona. Alves is happy to work with him again, as they wrote their story together when they played together. “Returning to the club in such conditions is another challenge. We love this club so much that we came back to help,” he said motivatedly.
There is still some time to go before the final nomination for the World Cup in Qatar, but Alves himself is not forgetting about the upcoming championship. According to the former Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain player, it will be a great and special event. The generosity of the people and respect for the guests has caught his attention during his many visits to the Asian country, as he says guests are welcomed in a special way.
In addition, he referred back to the concluded Copa América tournament where his country lost to Argentina in the final. He had always wanted his friends to win the Copa América if Brazil did not win it. He wasn’t exactly happy when Messi beat Brazil.
“I was happy to see Messi win the title because for a long time he dreamed of winning it with the Argentina national team,” he said at the end of the interview.
