National defender Ales Matějů is without a contract! Where will his steps lead?
Aleš Matějů ended up in Brescia, Italy. He has been there since 2018 and played in Serie A, but he will not play for the club from Lombardy in 2022. Just after entering 2022, the Czech national defender decided to terminate his contract.

Aleš Matějů is a product of the Pribram football club. In Příbram, the youngsters born in the 90s really succeeded. Apart from the national defender, successful offspring include Antonín Barák, Václav Černý and Jan Matoušek.
But now to the versatile full-back, who played mostly as a right-back in Brescia, but in the national jersey we saw him several times playing over his foot on the left side.
Matějů went through all the youth national teams and worked his way up to the senior national team. He got a chance in league football as a teenager in Příbram, played only 15 games there and then moved to Viktoria Plzeň.
He played 51 games for Plzeň, scoring 2 goals and assisting 2. A successful engagement earned him a dream transfer to England at the age of 21, acquired by Brighton. However, he never got a proper opportunity in the south of England and so came a move to Brescia in Italy.
the 25 year old defender racked up an impressive 100 games for the Lombard club, which were mostly in Serie B. For Brescia, Matthieu scored one goal and assisted on four.
After his contract was terminated early, he is now a free agent and there is frequent talk on social media about a return to the Czech top flight. But doesn’t the player himself, who is in his prime, have higher ambitions?
Winter preparations will start soon and players should complete them, at least in part (mainly training camps), to be ready for the second part of the season. Most coaches are keen to have the squad trained and together, so we will certainly soon know where the national defender’s next steps will lead.
