Wolverhampton host Chelsea in the eighteenth round of the Premier League. The Blues need a win to get closer to Manchester City and Liverpool, while Wolves would like to jump closer to the Top 6
Wolverhampton have opened the season in a threatening way, with excellent results from October and November they have reached the top half of the table, currently they are eighth. They are just five points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have seen a drop in performance and results over the last month. It has dropped from first place to third and is now four points behind the leaders. The absence of a real goal-scoring striker is noticeable.
Ruben Neves has been performing well this season, and the Portuguese defensive shield has one goal and an assist to his name. Striker Hee-chan Hwang, who is visiting the Wolves from Leipzig, has scored four times.
Chelsea are still dragged by the twenty-two-year-old Mason Mount, who has scored seven goals and assisted four in the Premier League. Reece James has had a hand in nine Chelsea league goals (4+5) from the right-back position.
Wolverhampton have long presented a very interesting style of play. Despite the minimum number of goals in its matches, even unbiased fans are entertained by the Wolves’ games. Still, it cannot go unmentioned that Wolverhampton has the second worst offense in the league with thirteen shots.
Chelsea have to rely much more on their defensive line when there is a crisis in attack, they have only scored twelve times so far. Only Manchester City have a more solid defensive line (9). Wolves have fished the ball out of the net fourteen times.
Given the breadth of Chelsea’s squad, I think the visitors, unlike the home side, will physically handle the third game in eight days better and win.
