Ancelotti has leaned on the AC Milan owner! Firing Maldini? Lack of respect, his priority is business, not sport

One of the world’s most famous coaches and current Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has criticised AC Milan owner Paolo Maldini, who recently sacked him. According to him, Gerry Cardinale prefers business over sporting merit. And it’s not just that he sees a problem.

The now former AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini was recently sacked from the club as he and owner Gerry Cardinale disagreed on competencies, the budget for the summer transfer window, the coaching staff and also the vision for the future.

The RedBird Capital Partners boss has understandably upset all Milan supporters with this move, plus key AC players.

However, current Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has also commented on the recent events. The Italian strategist has coached the Milanese club in the past and achieved spectacular success with them.

Two Champions League victories, two Super Cup wins, a Scudetto, a Coppa Italia championship – AC were truly world class during the Ancelotti era. Understandably so, he still has a relationship with the club and is not indifferent to the current situation.

The sacking of Maldini? Lack of respect for tradition!

“I learned in Madrid that history must always be respected,” Ancelotti told Il Giornale in a recent interview.

“Here, Di Stefano, Amancio, Gento and Puskás are exclusive values that are still respected. What happened to Maldini shows a lack of historical culture and a lack of respect for Milanese tradition. It’s true that you don’t win with history, but history teaches you how to win,” the famous Italian coach is clear.

“Football clubs that prioritise business over sporting merit are doomed to fail,” he added.

So what will happen to AC Milan is the big question. Maldini, along with Ricky Massaro, were the cornerstones of the long-term project and also the individuals most instrumental in the arrival of key players such as Rafael Leão, Theo Hernández and Mike Maignan.

Tensions are rising in Milan and for how very positive things have been with AC in recent years, the summer transfer window could be very interesting in terms of potential departures.
