Florida wins home game in overtime and dramatizes the Stanley Cup Final!
It’s gonna be a real drama. For an impartial fan, it’s a good thing that Vegas didn’t take a 3-0 series lead, but Florida dropped it to 1-2 at home.
It’s gonna be a real drama. For an impartial fan, it’s a good thing that Vegas didn’t take a 3-0 series lead, but Florida dropped it to 1-2 at home.
The Panthers in the first two games, it’s like it wasn’t them at all. All the previous series with Boston, Toronto and Carolina were blown out and what was their biggest strength was gone.
Suddenly, the unerring Bobrovsky started to get one goal after another in the net, the solid defense bought mistake after mistake. Perhaps the Panthers’ 10-day layoff from the Conference Finals, where they blew out Carolina 4-0, had an effect.
The result was 2-5 and 2-7 defeats in Vegas. Before the home game, Florida had a knife to its throat – if it lost, it would have been extremely difficult to turn the series around from 0: 3. That’s why Matthew Tkachuk called the game the most important in their life and in the history of the organization.
And that’s how Florida approached it, helped by the red wave of fans in the arena. In the 4th minute, defenseman Brandon Montour came on and opened the scoring with his seventh goal of the playoffs.
Early on, the Panthers came at their opponent and had other chances, but it took the Golden Knights some time to get up to speed. But they did so in the first period, with Stone crossing Marchessault’s shot on the power play in the 16th minute to tie the game.
Vegas continued to be active in the second period, at which point the Panthers were again a bit scalded. Bobrovsky turned in another one of his sensational playoff performances, and twice he had to make saves. But he was short on a Marchessault shot on the power play and Vegas went into the third period with a 2-1 lead.
Florida then fought back for a long time, but couldn’t get the puck past Adin Hill. Verhaeghe had a shot with two minutes left, but Hill knocked it away and Tkachuk got the puck in the net.
The game went into overtime, which Florida has great experience with in this playoffs and once again proved it. Verhaeghe came forward from the blue line and scored the game-winning goal to put the game away for Florida.
The series continues, Florida has a second home game. And she made it clear that she’s not going to let her skin go cheap.
