In recent weeks or months, Tomáš Souček was often criticized for his performance, which was on a downward trend. According to many fans, he was overworked and should have rested, but the lanky midfielder responded to the criticism in the best possible way.
Soucek’s performances were quite far from the ones that made West Ham fans fall in love with him. Last season he was just about everywhere, defending in his own box, setting up play in the middle and then scoring goals in the attacking area.
But this year, he’s been on a demanding schedule. The national team, the Premier League and the Europa League. In almost every game Soucek played the whole 90 minutes, so the fatigue must have accumulated.
In recent weeks, criticism of Soucek started to grow, especially after the game against Manchester City, where the Kladivar midfield could not cope with the agile midfielders of the Citizens. But they are one of the best in the world and just a few days earlier they dismantled the star-studded PSG in the same way.
David Moyes didn’t sit Soucek down and he rewarded him in the very next game in the best possible way. The national captain pounced on a corner kick from Fornals in the fifth minute of the game against Brighton and headed it into the net. He responded to all the criticism in the best way he could.
It was the second goal for Soucek in the current Premier League season, he scored 10 goals last season.
