A fan pleaded with Messi: Get me a Foden jersey

Wednesday’s match between Manchester City and PSG was spiced up by a billboard of a young fan alongside three goals. A hairy Citizens admirer asked Lionel Messi to get him the jersey of his favourite Phil Foden.

The banners asking for a certain player’s jersey keep multiplying. Most fans complain about the cardboard signs for several reasons. Kids holding a paper prop during a game obstructs the view of others.

The main argument of those opposed to the current trend is different. Match jerseys are often found at auctions, where fathers of successful junior catchers sell them for large sums. And that logically pisses off the rest of the fans.

But players can appreciate an original banner. A young fan of the home team prepared one for the Champions League match between Manchester City and PSG.

“Could you get me Foden’s jersey?”

The national midfielder did not notice the fan in the audience, but the video with the message reached him on social media.

Whether the video, with almost seven hundred thousand views, connected Foden with the fan is a question, but at least the hairy Citizens supporter in a few years can say he caught the eye of Foden himself at the time. And that’s a familiar feeling.
