A great day dedicated to quite possibly the greatest footballer in history. On Thursday, November 25, Naples commemorated one year since Diego Maradona died. So on Sunday, the team again wore the jerseys bearing his likeness.
In addition, a statue of Maradona was unveiled and will be moved in front of the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. It has to be said that it is really hilarious!
Then, when Napoli’s match against Lazio started, the Argentine must have rejoiced in heaven. The Campania side came at the Romans at an incredible pace. Piotr Zielinski opened the scoring in the 7th minute.
To make matters worse, Dries Mertens, the man who has already surpassed Maradona in virtually every historical club statistic, started to take over in the 10th minute. It should be mentioned, however, that he scored his first goal after a beautiful combination action of the whole team.
The Belgian took care of the beauty of his second goal in the 29th minute with a shot of his own. When the score was already 3:0, Naples had nowhere to rush. She was enjoying the game, playing for the fans, entertaining everyone in the stadium. Maradona, in short, would have been proud.
Lazio hardly had any possession the whole game, the home team outplayed them. No substitutions could turn it around. In the 85th minute, Fabian Ruiz made it 4-0 with a beautiful shot from distance.
But most importantly, AC Milan didn’t beat Sassuolo on Sunday, which makes Napoli alone at the top of the table after 14 rounds of Serie A, with a 3 point lead. With a score of 30::7, it has sovereignly the best defence in the league and the second best attack.
Coach Luciano Spaletti is leaving a truly outstanding impression so far!
