Check out the altercation between Klopp and Arteta that saw them yellow carded!
In the Liverpool-Arsenal match, emotions were not only seen on the pitch, but off it as well. The verbal clash at the benches was directed by both head coaches.
In the Liverpool-Arsenal match, emotions were not only seen on the pitch, but off it as well. The verbal clash at the benches was directed by both head coaches.
It was the 32nd minute of the match when an aerial duel between the home team’s Mané and the visiting Tomiyasu took place in the middle of the pitch.
Senegalese Mané quite objectively fouled the Japanese Arsenal defender. No question about it. But what got Klopp fired up was the reaction of the visiting coach.
For Mikel Arteta had left his designated area of movement by not entering the field of play. He gesticulated wildly with his hand in Spanish style. It was clear that he wanted the referee to award a yellow card to the fouling striker.
Klopp then made his way towards the Spanish coach and began to reproach him for this. It didn’t take long for the entire bench to be on their feet.
The individual members of the implementation teams even had to make sure that Klopp and Arteta did not get within striking distance, so to speak, and it remained only a verbal altercation.
Head referee Michael Oliver resolved the situation by issuing yellow cards and play continued. Perhaps because of this, however, the cheering at the Liverpool stadium became a bit more intense for the home team, who eventually defeated Arsenal by a class difference of 4:0.
