Pogba the highest paid player in the Premier League? The French gold digger is both expensive and free

A source close to Paul Pogba has revealed to French newspaper L’Equipe that he will extend his contract at Old Trafford if Manchester United make him the highest earning player in Premier League history. There seems to be no end to the continuation of the sad story.

Pogba is undoubtedly one of the best central midfielders of our time. But he is also a perfect example that at the highest level, talent alone is not enough and you need to work hard. At the same time, you need to leave everything on the pitch during a competitive match and, especially in this case, the French footballer is driving his coaches crazy.

The previous lines are perfectly illustrated by Whoscored’s evaluation of his performance. While in the jersey of the French national team his marks are close to number 8, in Manchester United he is around 7, and in the last matches he has entered, he has been one of the worst players on the pitch.

This known fact about Pogba is that he can win games for his team, but if he is not in the mood or who knows why, he will sink his teammates with his performance.

In the France national team, he practically doesn’t allow himself similar lapses and moods, after all, he is surely aware that there are 10 others waiting to take his place. Only at Manchester United, his position is different, as the club paid a considerable amount for him and of course sends considerable money to his account every month.

But does his performance match it? Far from it! All the sadder then is the news that he will only sign a contract at Old Trafford if he is the highest paid Premier League footballer in history.

Manchester United management should certainly not agree to such a condition. How would the players who are so much more valuable to the team and whose performances are stable then feel?

Steve McManaman has already spoken about a similar issue recently in an interview with Sky Sports, in which he commented on why it doesn’t make sense for Liverpool to sign Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland.

This is because the Reds would have to overpay for the player and then they would be looking at other players like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Trent Alexander-Arnold who would also be eligible for a significant contract upgrade.

Overpaying one player may create a problem during negotiations with others. If at least that player is worth it, so be it. It’s just that having a footballer on the team who puts in a breathtaking performance here and there and then gets senselessly expelled and is the worst player on the pitch? It can’t be beneficial in the long run.

Moreover, it takes the place of interesting players like Donny van de Beek, who only sits on the bench and his talent is slowly but surely being stomped into the ground. But of course, this is already an incomprehensible strategy of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his team, since they have given the Dutch midfielder practically no chance.

Pogba has now been injured for a few weeks and will be 29 in the spring. The best thing to do, in my opinion, would be to let him go to PSG, for example, to earn a living with Neymar and try to make at least something out of it for further investment.

Even if he were to leave for free next year, that’s more sensible than paying huge sums for someone who doesn’t breathe for you on the pitch.
