Xavi, after his arrival on the Barcelona bench, set the team some rules that everyone must follow. One of them is the obligation for the members of the management team to arrive at least two hours before the training session, while the players have to report an hour and a half before it starts.
These rules are aimed at introducing discipline within the Catalan club and at the same time unifying all the players. This is because in matches, Barcelona players do not present themselves as a team and struggle greatly in the game.
Ousmane Dembélé already broke the first rule on Friday morning – arriving on time for training. According to the ESPN newspaper, the French footballer arrived late for the meeting, for which he will have to pay a fine.
Barcelona had a training session scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday. However, Dembélé arrived three minutes late, at 8:33 a.m., for the meeting, which according to the new rules was at 8:30 a.m.
Dembélé did not escape the penalty. However, he should definitely be more careful, as this is his multiple offence, and he certainly did not show Xavi in a good light in this respect.
Yet Xavi is one of those who publicly defends Dembélé. According to the Spanish coach, Dembélé could be one of the best players in the world if he wasn’t hampered by injuries so often.
In addition, Xavi is also actively campaigning for Dembélé’s contract to be extended, which the club have been negotiating with the player for some time.
