Gareth Southgate has cut one star from the England squad and called up a familiar face as a replacement
Gareth Southgate, the manager of the England national team, has released the list of twenty-five players who will be attending the national team reunion and will feature in the matches England will play for Albania and San Marino.
The World Cup qualifying matches against Albania and San Marino will definitely not be played by Jadon Sancho, who moved from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United in the summer. Gareth Southgate did not include him in the nomination.
Sancho was one of England’s stars at this year’s European Championships. However, after his move to the Premier League, he is not playing for Manchester United as the England manager would have liked.
Instead, Sancho’s vacant place in the national team will be taken by his teammate Marcus Rashford. He returned to the turf after injury, played five games for Manchester United and scored three goals.
Another player who has been dropped from the national team roster is also Sancho’s teammate, Jesse Lingard. He will not be attending the national team meeting for the same reason as Sancho. In addition, Southgate did not call up Trippier from Atlético Madrid and Tomori from AC Milan compared to the last reunion.
On the other hand, Harry Maguire, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James, who were injured last time, are returning to the England squad. In addition, Southgate has called up Jude Bellingham.
Also called up to the national team is Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale, who is in fantastic form at the moment. There is speculation that he could start both games as number one in goal. Bukayo Saka has been called up again from Arsenal.
However, there is no place left for Emil Smith Rowe, who has also been playing brilliantly of late. Gareth Southgate had promised to call him up to the national team soon, but he hasn’t made the cut this time.
Full list of 25 names called up to the England squad::
England are top of Group I after eight matches. It has won six matches and drawn two. The lead over second-placed Poland is three points. Albania are third on 15 points. However, England will go into both upcoming duels as favourites and will most likely advance to the World Cup as winners of their group.
