Is West Ham heading for the title? Coach Moyes keeps his feet on the ground
A look at the league table before the November break is pleasant for the Kladivars. However, coach Moyes is keeping his feet on the ground.
A look at the Premier League table ahead of the November break is pleasing to the eyes of Hammers fans. However, coach Moyes is not closing in on the title and is keeping his feet on the ground.
Four wins from the last five games, 23 points out of 33 possible, third place in the table. Two years ago, this would have been utopia for Hammers fans. However, Scottish coach David Moyes has brought it into reality.
Without astronomical amounts of money for transfers, he works well with a relatively narrow squad, incorporates young hopefuls and manages to get the most out of every player.
The same was true in Sunday’s game against Liverpool. The final score of 3: 2 suggests the kind of gala performance that took place on the pitch. Attributes such as combativeness, cohesion and a good display of combination play managed to end Liverpool’s twenty-five match unbeaten run.
In a post-match interview, coach Moyes was asked by BBC Sport reporters if he was thinking about the title.
“I remain very optimistic and I would like to answer this question that we have the ability to do it, but I don’t think so. I see our chances of fighting for the top four. I don’t know what other teams will be fighting for those places, but with a bit of luck we will be one of them,” Moyes hopes.
The coach, who has experience at Everton and Manchester United, also recalls that last year West Ham missed out on the Champions League by just two points.
He would not like to see a similar situation again this season, so before focusing on the title, the club should finish its efforts in the qualifying group of this prestigious competition.
