Borussia Dortmund are still one of Germany’s top sides, but the club’s success has been slow in recent years. In the last five years, the Westphalian side has won just three trophies.
There are several reasons why the club has not been so successful. One of them, however, is undoubtedly the regular sales of talented and key players to bigger clubs, while they are not always optimally replaced.
The most recent such case was the departure of Jadon Sancho, who was scouted by Borussia as a young talent at Manchester City. They soon gave him an opportunity and made him a real star.
It was expected that he would soon be emulated by his compatriot Jude Bellingham, whom Dortmund acquired from second-tier Birmingham. The midfielder, only 18 years old, has astonished the football world with his performances and his maturity. According to Transfermarkt, he is currently valued at 70 million euros.
However, Borussia’s first team boss Sebastian Kehl refuses to let him leave. On the contrary. Bellingham is said to stay at the club for several more years, moreover, according to his words, there is no buy-out clause in his contract.
“It’s nice that people are talking about our players. It’s proof that we are doing something right. But we want to win trophies, and for that we need to keep our players in the team,” Kehl was quoted as saying in an interview with Sport1.
Moreover, according to Kehl, Bellingham has no reason to leave. He is loved by the fans, and he is enjoying his time at Dortmund to the fullest. In short, there are no signs of him leaving.
The English talent has a contract at Borussia until the summer of 2025.
