Bizarre! James Rodriguez was fouled hard in the Qatar league, but he was sent off. Look at the curious situation

James Rodriguez experienced for the first time how cruel and absurd decisions can be made by referees in the Qatari league. In his last game for Al-Rayyan he was fouled hard, but he was the one who was sent off. His opponent did not even get a card.

Al-Rayyan took on Al-Arabi on Saturday. Star James Rodriguez played his third league game for the former, but did not finish the match.

In injury time, he got the ball on the edge of the opponent’s hexagon and immediately wanted to head it straight at him. But he was prevented from doing so by a hard tackle from an Al-Arabi player. It was obvious that there was definitely no effort to play the ball in this duel.

The tackle, of course, sparked an altercation immediately on the pitch. Both participants in the duel took some time to recover, but eventually both got back to their feet. Ironically, the former Real Madrid and Everton player was shown a yellow card.

Of course, Rodriguez himself couldn’t like that. He protested a lot against the yellow card. His teammates tried to calm him down, to no avail. So the referee gave him a second yellow card and sent the Colombian off.

This bizarre decision is being wondered at by the media across the football world. The whole situation was then published on Twitter in a video by the daily Carrusel Deportivo. The first video records the foul, the second the nonsensical sending off.

A sending off like this will certainly not give Qatari football the good reputation in the world that Qatar is seeking ahead of the World Cup. Even the stars coming into the local league could quickly become disgusted with playing there.

Rodriguez has played four games in Qatar so far. Aside from the bizarre red card, he has notched a goal and an assist.
