The Brazilian Premier League match between Gremio and Palmeiras had a nasty ending when the home fans invaded the pitch after the defeat and damaged the VAR equipment. The visitors won the match 3-1.

The home side Gremio, for whom star player Douglas Costa plays for example, could not beat Palmeiras, for whom Felipe Melo plays for example, in their own stadium. The home fans couldn’t stand it and stormed the pitch after the referee blew the whistle to end the match.

The Gremio players had to quickly retreat to the tunnel and then to the dressing room as there was a lot of chaos outside.

The players were threatened. Some fans tried to fight with the security guards who prevented them from entering the tunnel and the dressing rooms. There was a lot of hatred from the fans. There was nothing but chaos on the pitch.

The situation was only resolved by the arrival of the police, whose intervention allowed the fans to return to the stands, calm down and start leaving the stadium.

Gremia fans cannot be happy with their team’s performance, as they are in penultimate place in the top Brazilian league. They are seven points behind the relegation zone with 11 games left in the season.

Gremio, who have acquired star winger Douglas Costa on loan from Juventus, are certainly not considering relegation to the second tier. Now, however, they have to fight to stay in the top flight.
