European Conference League Finals. Football Association chairman Petr Fousek has hinted in the recent past that a similar option is on the table. Now, however, the FAČR is in talks with the UEFA boss about holding a congress and other, no less interesting matters!
Several football federations from several European countries are interested in hosting the final match of the weakest European competition in 2023 and 2024. In recent days, however, representatives of the FAČR, led by its president, met with UEFA chief Aleksander Čeferin.
And not only for this purpose. The Football Association of the Czech Republic has also asked for the opportunity to organise the UEFA Congress. As far as the opposing candidates are concerned, Cyprus, Greece, Northern Ireland, Slovakia and Israel are also seeking to host the final of the European Conference League.
“Of course, there was talk of our bid to host the 2023 or 2024 Conference League Finals, but we would also like to win the organisation of the UEFA Congress and some other events,” Fousek said in a press release.
“We informed the UEFA president about the changes in Czech football and the reforms in the FAČR that have taken place in the four months since the June general assembly, and we also presented our plans for the future,” he said.
“We confirmed to UEFA that we have a reliable partner and were assured of their support,” the FAČR president said.
Since September, the Football Association has had a larger representation in the qualitatively better UEFA bodies. Fousek sits on the UEFA Commission for National Associations, while Michal Valtr sits on the Commission for National Team Competitions.
It was the latter who also stressed that they have also discussed a number of important and useful professional topics with UEFA, be it football funding, specialised programmes, legislation or strategies.
The two sides also discussed topics that are currently the most important in the football world – FIFA’s proposal to host the World Cup every two years, the Super League dispute and racism in the football environment.
“We have invited President Čeferin to visit the Czech Republic next year and we are pleased that he has accepted the invitation, the date is still to be determined, ” concluded Fousek.
