Is PSG a prison? When the president said I would never leave for free, I swallowed dry, says Mbappé
An engagement at PSG can be a very lucrative address, but it can also become a prison, as fans joke. Marco Verratti has experienced it in the past, now Kylian Mbappé. The latter described his thoughts on the failed transfer in a candid interview with RMC Sport.
An engagement at PSG can be a very lucrative address, but it can also become a prison, as fans joke. Marco Verratti has experienced it in the past, now Kylian Mbappé. The latter described his thoughts on the failed transfer in a candid interview with RMC Sport.
In 2017, Marco Verratti was very close to a transfer from PSG to Barcelona. At the end of the season his contract was up, the Italian footballer had a verbal agreement with the Catalan big club.
But this did not please the management of the Parisian complex, the Qatari owners would not have tolerated a similar indignity. So they discredited Verratti’s agent, forced him to change his manager and sign a new contract. PSG even filmed a video where Verratti blames all efforts to move to Barcelona on his former agent.
Since then, the saying that PSG is a prison that is hard to get out of has taken hold among fans. The summer scene with Kylian Mbappé confirms this. In an interview with RMC Sport, the French striker said that the management announced in July that he wanted to leave.
However, PSG said that Mbappé only announced that he wanted to leave at the end of August and they didn’t have enough time to find a replacement, hence they didn’t let their gem go even when Real Madrid offered over 200 million euros.
But Mbappé’s contract expires at the end of the season and both he and Real Madrid were counting on him moving to the Santiago Bernabéu for free next year. But there may be a catch.
“It’s scary when your president says ‘Kylian will never leave for free’. When I heard that, I swallowed dry and said to myself, ‘But what happens now? ‘” recounted Mbappé in an interview with RMC Sport.
Kylian went on to say in the interview that he has no thoughts of extending at PSG at the moment. That’s why he was so puzzled by the statement of president Nasser Al-Khelaifi. Because at the moment, all indications are that Mbappé will leave for free in the summer, only PSG seem to have a plan to put a stop to it.
the 22-year-old would logically be welcomed in the squad by perhaps every coach in the world. At the same time, there has also been talk of interest from Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City. But Mbappé assured that if he left in the summer, it would only be to Real Madrid. At the same time, he added, leaving seemed like a logical step.
