Barcelona have managed to ease the club’s coffers and will go on the hunt for new reinforcements in January

Barcelona spent only 30 million euros on transfers in the summer, which is relatively little for such a big club. In addition, several key players left the club, led by Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann. From a sporting perspective, these departures did not make sense, but from a financial point of view, it brought the club money that can be used to buy new players.
Unfortunately, the catastrophic decisions of the previous management have had their full impact on Barcelona and the current crisis caused by COVID-19 has not been good for the club either.
Thanks to numerous departures and a big wage cut, the club has managed to put together sixteen million euros for which it wants to bring in at least two players in the January transfer window. With Raheem Sterling and Dani Olmo to be at the top of the list of selected reinforcements, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.
The biggest of the targets for the club’s management is the winger. With Ousmane Dembélé perpetually injured, Ansu Fati and Memphis Depay are the only two solid options Ronald Koeman has at his disposal.
Sterling, in particular, fits those requirements perfectly. He’s great on and off the ball and has a great eye for goal. He is currently at Manchester City, where he has failed to break into the starting line-up so far this season despite Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, which is why his departure is being touted.
However, unless the Citizens sign a new striker, Sterling’s transfer anywhere is unlikely. So a lot will depend on whether Guardiola can snap up someone in the winter.
In contrast, Dani Olmo seems to be a very realistic target. His contract with RB Leipzig expires in 2023, so the German outfit could let him go even at a reduced price.
Olmo is a very versatile type of player, he has played in five positions including midfield since his arrival in Germany alone. It is obvious that in Barcelona he would play mainly on the right side of the attack, as Fati and Depay play on the left.
But both transfers have some complications. Sterling receives a huge salary in England, Olmo is a key player for RB Leipzig and the club will not want to give him up so easily. It is therefore possible that Barcelona will have to look for other more affordable alternatives.
