Tomas Soucek is the seventh best player in the world! How is the public reacting?
Some media are saying that the Czech midfielder is not doing so well at West Ham this season. But Sky Sports’ metrics show that in the medium term, Tomas Soucek is among the world’s best.
Some media are saying that the Czech midfielder is not doing so well at West Ham this season. But Sky Sports’ metrics show that in the medium term, Tomas Soucek is among the world’s best. According to the prestigious English sports channel, the captain of the Czech national team is actually the seventh best player in the world!
How is that possible, you may ask? He’s not scoring that many goals this season. Yes, that’s true, but Tomáš Souček is an incredibly valuable player for the team, especially defensively, and he is constantly improving his ball skills.
Those who have been watching Soucek for a long time must have noticed that he has improved tremendously in his passing and overall quality.
The data provided by Sky Sports is literally dreamy and unimaginable for Czech football. After all, the Czech player left behind Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane or Cristiano Ronaldo (12th place)!
The data comes from a medium-long period, when the measurement started on 1 October 2020. The next highest ranked Czech players for this period are Vladimír Coufal (121st place) and Patrik Schick (227th place).
Anyway, the claims of some media that Soucek is not doing as well as he did the previous season cannot be completely refuted. According to the WhoScored statistical portal, though, he maintains a nice average rating per game of 6.87. But even Sky Sports’ metrics show that, as measured from the start of the 2021/2022 season, Suk is adding fewer points to the performance table than before.
On the contrary, striker Patrik Schick is adding a lot of points this season, he has risen to a nice 48th place since the start of the new season (in a short period).
The reaction of the football public
“Okay, you want any of the three:: Kane, Lukaku, Ronaldo or Soucek? Nothing against Suk, he’s a nice and humble guy, but this is completely out of line. I’ve watched a few WHU games and all the last repre games and he’s definitely not a guy who decides games and pulls the team…”
“I guess they have a metric that favours the things Tomas excels at, but for example in winning aerial duels he is the best in the PL and maybe the world. He’s scored a bunch of goals, so it’s no wonder he’s high up there.”
“Plus balls taken away, covering space, defending space, shifting the centre of gravity…he’s really top in a lot of indicators. He’s absolutely at the top of his game.”
“I personally think he has the qualities of a leader. A person who gives peace to his surroundings. That was a big part of how WHU did last season. That’s the kind of player everyone wants on their team. Humility, passion, hard work, team spirit, life story and more.”
“You only know how valuable Suk is when you lose him,” wrote a Slavia fan.
