Group G is off to a great start for the Lions in the European Championship qualifiers. Coach Jan Suchopárek’s team has beaten Slovenia, Albania and Kosovo, and so has full points after three games.
However, the performance was not exceptional. The opening match was decided by Martin Vitík at the end, while Kosovo won thanks to a single goal by Adam Gabriel.
“The result is good, but the game is not 100%. The team has shown that it has character and quality and we are gradually improving, the performance is better and we are making gradual steps. It’s not only about results, but also about the quality of the game,” said coach Suchopárek at the press conference.
The biggest competitor in the group is certainly the England team, which has played only two matches and has 4 points. They lost a two-goal lead to Slovenia, with whom they drew 2-2.
“Basically, we don’t care because we need to win as many points as possible ourselves. Of course, the losses of our opponents can be our advantage in the final calculation, but we need to win points ourselves,” he added.
The goal is now clear. The Lions have a home game against Kosovo on Tuesday, which they need to win. Twelve points is what everyone in the team wants.
“I think everybody would like that because we are playing to be successful. The goal before the start of the qualification was clear, for the team to gain enough confidence, but it’s not certain yet, we have to make it through the fourth match,” Suchopárek concluded.
