In the footsteps of my father and grandfather. Daniel Maldini scores for AC Milan

AC Milan beat Spezia 2-1 thanks to a late goal from Brahim Díaz and are now in 1st place in the league. Daniel Maldini also played a big part in this, scoring his side’s first goal and helping his famous family to another historic record.
The young midfielder has only featured as a substitute so far this season and has only ever seen a few minutes on the pitch. Until today.
Coach Stefan Pioli gave him space in the starting lineup for the first time and it turned out to be a good move. At the start of the second half, Maldini took advantage of Pierre Kalul’s centre to send his side into the lead with a header.
The legendary Paolo Maldini, who is AC’s sporting director, proudly watched his son’s first goal.
The Maldini family has a very rich history at AC Milan and in Serie A, but thanks to Daniel they have now added another historical record. It has become the first family whose 3 generations have made it in Serie A in the jersey of one team.
His grandfather, Cesare Maldini, played in the Rossoneri jersey as a defender in the 50s and 60s, winning 4 league and once the European Champions Cup with the club. He later led AC as manager.
Daniele’s father, Paolo, probably needs no introduction. One of the best defenders in history, he spent his entire career in Milan and won 26 trophies (e.g. 7 times Serie A and 5 times Champions League + PMEZ).
” My father demands a lot from me, but he also helps me a lot and gives me advice. Yesterday I found out that I will be starting in the starting line-up. I felt a lot of emotions today, but I was calm. My teammates and coach helped me a lot,” Maldini described after the game.
Thanks to his goal, AC Milan beat Spezia and will remain at the top of Serie A at least until Sunday evening, when Napoli plays Cagliari.
The next opportunity for Daniele to continue in the footsteps of his ancestors could come on Tuesday, when the Rossoneri face a Champions League match with Atlético Madrid.
