Vrba’s incomprehensible moves: zero midfield and cut Hložek
Sparta started their Europa League journey with a game against Brondby, but it was more of an embarrassment. Pavel Vrba deployed the same midfield as in Plzeň, but he couldn’t come up with anything in this line-up. Hložek was again cut off at the top of the attack.

Sparta have a great weapon in the form of the excellent Adam Hložek. But so far, they don’t seem to be able to use it. Pavel Vrba still puts the 19-year-old at the spearhead of the attack, although playing at the back is definitely not his thing.
If Hložek is to play as a lone striker, he must at least have a creative midfielder under him who can create some chances. But only Dočkal and Karabec stayed on the bench the whole game.
The centre of midfield was definitely not well chosen by Pavel Vrba. David Pavelka, Michal Sacek and Filip Souček are almost identical players. Defensive workers who run a lot, get a few balls in the defensive phase, but can hardly come up with anything good in attack.
Even Hložek suffers from this, who was completely cut off the whole game against Brondby. The whole game, especially the first half was very worked, too many bad passes, you could almost say in one word boring.
There was no one on the pitch to give order to the game, to give it an idea, it’s just that with three defensive midfielders on the pitch it’s hard to think of anything when that activity isn’t in their blood.
Sparta have a tough game this weekend against Jablonec, who managed their Conference League game against Cluj. If they want to think about success in the league or cups, their game will have to change rapidly.
