Werner’s finish has failed again! Watch how the Chelsea striker missed the empty net
If there’s one biggest loser in the football world at the moment, it’s definitely Timo Werner. His finishing is really futile, he often faces ridicule among the fans for missed chances.
If there’s one biggest loser in the football world at the moment, it’s definitely Timo Werner. His finishing is really futile, he often faces ridicule among the fans for missed chances.
Against Iceland in the World Cup Qualifiers, he again showed another of his blown chances. After a pass from Lukas Klostermann, he found himself all alone in front of an empty net, but he couldn’t put his foot down and headed high over.
Werner needn’t be too sorry, however, as Germany beat Iceland 4-0 and are safely at the top of their qualifying group. Werner also scored in the 89th minute, increasing the score to 4: 0 after a pass from Chelsea teammate Havertz.
But Werner missed the empty net for the umpteenth time. Fans even create video compilations of Werner’s failed attempts, and he is often mocked on the internet.
He came to Chelsea from Leipzig before last season with a reputation as a cannonballer. In the Bundesliga, he netted 28 goals and added 8 assists in the 2019/20 season. He also scored twice in the DFB Pokal and added 4 goals in the Champions League.
His gunpowder got a bit wet at Chelsea, though. In 35 games in the Premier League, he scored 6 goals, added two goals in the English Cups and 4 in the Champions League. That’s not exactly low, but for a number one striker in a Champions League winner, those are certainly not great numbers. Especially after all the chances Werner hasn’t converted.
