Cristiano Ronaldo is very likely to make his second Manchester United debut. The Red Devils will challenge Newcastle at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. Against the Magpies, the Portuguese has an impressive record. How has he done in games against them in the past?
This Saturday at 16:00, Manchester United will play another league game. It will be a special one, as Cristiano Ronaldo will most likely make his second debut in the club’s jersey.
Judging by the statistics, Newcastle would be an excellent opponent for a debut start. During his previous stint, the Portuguese netted 6 goals in 11 games for the Magpies, to which he added 5 assists, in short, an excellent record.
Of those 11 games, the Red Devils won ten times and drew only once. From a purely statistical point of view, Ronaldo’s deployment would be a given.
The last time Ronaldo started against Newcastle was in April 2009, when it was already widely known that he was on his way out. It was played in the north of England and the Portuguese failed to make his mark in the stats.
But the last time he came on against the Magpies at Old Trafford, it was a different story. It was in January 2008, when Manchester United destroyed Newcastle 6-0 and one of the best footballers in history scored a hat-trick.
It should be mentioned that for Ronaldo it was the first ever hat-trick in a Red Devils jersey, where he had been since 2003. He had been waiting for it for 4 and a half years.
Can Ronaldo, if he comes on, turn the heads of opposing defenders as he did in the past?
