Shaqiri has already undergone an initial medical and then the subsequent signing sealed the transfer. The Reds will receive six million euros, with a further five million they can receive in the future through bonuses.
The Swiss has had the most successful period of his career in a Liverpool jersey. He won the Premier League title with the Reds, won the Champions League winner’s trophy, and also triumphed in the Club World Cup and the European Super Cup with the team.
His most famous moment of his Liverpool career was the big turnaround against Barcelona in the 2019 Champions League semi-final. Shaqiri himself was instrumental in that spectacular win, scoring a goal and assist. The Reds ultimately dominated this edition.
The twenty-nine-year-old spielmacher moved to Liverpool in 2018 for £13 and a half million. In that time, he played 45 games and scored 7 goals. He never figured high in Jurgen Klopp’s plans and only filled the role of a substitute. He had to deal with huge competition.
So the reason why Shaqiri is leaving Liverpool is quite obvious. At 29, he doesn’t want to sit on the bench all the time, so he has decided to make this crucial move. His quality is undeniable and he will be an asset to Lyon. It will also be a new motivation for him. He has never played in Ligue 1 before.
Shaqiri is Lyon’s fourth signing of the summer. Before him, the club acquired Da Silva, Henrique and Emerson. The French hegemon has not had an ideal start to the new season. He has just 2 points from three games and is only in 16th place.
